A Quality Framework for Working with Disadvantaged Adults in the Arts

The working PRINCIPLES which form the A.R.T.S quality framework are:

  1. TOLERANCE
  2. EQUITY
  3. RESPONSIVENESS
  4. REFLECTION
  5. FLEXIBILITY

These principles were identified as in common and present in the best practice in all 5 organisations that worked on the Erasmus+ Alternative Routes to Success Project (A.R.T.S)

A.R.T.S FRAMEWORK QUALITY PRINCIPLE is at work when we see for example
TOLERANCE Different behaviours and opinions are considered within the working situation Group agreement collectively created to manage conflict

Awareness-raising sessions built into workshops

EQUITY Support is tailored to participants to ensure fairness and equality Sign language interpreter is used

Facilitators support the space and time in turn for individuals to express within a workshop

RESPONSIVENESS Needs are reacted to quickly, positively and with empathy Break to allow for an issue within group dynamic
FLEXIBILITY Reflective practices are in place, a willingness to modify approaches Participant has a good unforseen idea which is followed by leader

The time of the workshop/ meeting may need to change as group energy is better
